Below are the simple steps to check android version on your phone :
1. Go to SETTINGS of your Android Phone. You have already been here 100’s of times.
2. Check for an option: “About Phone”
3. Click on “About Phone” Option and go to next screen.
Now you will be able to see your phone’s Android version right away. The number below Android version (4.2 in above pic) is your android version number. It differs from device to device depending upon the updates and various carriers.

Check you android version number from the above method and see its name in the list. There are many apps on Google play store which can be installed on certain installed android os versions only. Google keeps on updating and hence you should always check using system updates in the last screen. If any latest update is available for your device, the phone will download and update your device. You can then again check the newer android version which got installed.
In case of Android Tablets, you will see “About Tablet” instead of About phone. Rest settings are same. You can check the android version in the same way as explained above.
