How to Check Android Version on Phone and Tablet

Android operating system keep on upgrading now a days. There are many features which are available in newer android versions. Sometimes we forget about the android version installed on our phone. Hence, you should remember simple steps to look your android version number at point of time within few seconds.
You can follow below steps to check android version on any company mobile such as Samsung galaxy s2, Samsung galaxy s3, Samsung galaxy s5, Samsung Galaxy note 2, Samsung Galaxy Note 3, Samsung Galaxy Tab, Samsung Galaxy Grand duos, Samsung Galaxy Note 3,2, Samsung Galaxy Note 3 Neo, Samsung Galaxy ace, Samsung Galaxy Ace duos, Samsung Galaxy Core and other companies mobile such as Micromax,HTC,Sony Xperia, Karbonn, LG,Lava, nexus 5,6, Moto G, Moto X, Moto E etc. 

Below are the simple steps to check android version on your phone : 

1. Go to SETTINGS of your Android Phone.  You have already been here 100’s of times.


2. Check for an option: “About Phone”

3. Click on “About Phone” Option and go to next screen.

Now you will be able to see your phone’s Android version right away. The number below Android version (4.2 in above pic) is your android version number. It differs from device to device depending upon the updates and various carriers. 
Here is a list of Android OS version released by Google. Using this you can identify the name of your version installed on your phone.
  • Alpha (1.0)
  • Beta (1.1)
  • Cupcake (1.5)
  • Donut (1.6)
  • Eclair (2.0–2.1)
  • Froyo (2.2–2.2.3)
  • Gingerbread (2.3–2.3.7)
  • Honeycomb (3.0–3.2.6)
  • Ice Cream Sandwich (4.0–4.0.4)
  • Jelly Bean (4.1–4.3.1)
  • KitKat (4.4–4.4.4, 4.4W.1–4.4W.2)
  • Lollipop (5.0–5.0.2)
Check you android version number from the above method and see its name in the list. There are many apps on Google play store which can be installed on certain installed android os versions only. Google keeps on updating and hence you should always check using system updates in the last screen. If any latest update is available for your device, the phone will download and update your device. You can then again check the newer android version which got installed. 
In case of Android Tablets, you will see “About Tablet” instead of About phone. Rest settings are same. You can check the android version in the same way as explained above. You can also check for system updates, baseband version, build number and kernel version. You can also activate the developer option by clicking build number 4-5 times. In older models, the developer option is given directly. In newer ones, it’s hidden and you have to click build version so that android start showing it in the about phone.
