আজ ইংরেজি দ্বিতীয় পত্রের Sentence Connectors-এর শ্রেণিবিন্যাসকৃত ৭ নং ব্যবহার শিখবো।
৭. উদাহরণ ও ফিরিস্তি প্রদানে ব্যবহূত sentence connectors ঃ
(a) Phrasal connectors: For example, for instance, e.g. (exempli gratia), that is, i.e. (id est.), namely, such as, like ইত্যাদি। এদের অর্থ ‘যেমন’, ‘যথা’, ‘মতো’ বা ‘উদাহরণস্বরূপ’। এই connector-গুলো সাধারণত কোন noun/pronoun-এর পূর্বে বসে। যথাঃ
She gave me many things; for example - rice, wheat, vegetables, oil, milk etc. (‘যথা’/‘যেমন’)
Nilufar has eaten various fruits; for instance – banana, apple, mango, jackfruit etc. (‘যেমন’)
Smritee gave him a present i.e. a wrist watch. (‘যা হলো’)
There are many big rivers here namely the Padma, the Meghna and the Jamuna. (‘প্রধানত’)
Fruits are of various tastes such as sour, sweet, lemonade etc. (‘যেমন’)
I need a very energetic person like Shuruj. (‘মতো’)
(b) Clausal connectors: For example, for instance, that is, in other words, as ইত্যাদি। এই connector-গুলোর বেশিরভাগই বাক্যের শুরুতে কিংবা মাঝে বসে। যথাঃ
You can do many good things. For example, you can help the poor. (‘উদাহরণস্বরূপ বলা যায়’)
Nujhat helped him in many ways. For instance, she gave him shelter. (‘দৃষ্টান্তস্বরূপ বলা যায়’)
Hamim can make fun that is he makes false break dance. (‘তা হলো’)
Dynamo can do unbelievable things, in other words he is a magician. (‘অন্য কথায়’)
We need better support as he does naturally. (‘যেমনটি’)
